& another thing...... Jon L is the son of the billionaire owner. In the current situation he can easily work for nothing. I do company turnarounds and I would consider spinning off the new Failand academy and making it a commercial enterprise that has to sell its graduates or charge clubs “school fees” if the regulations permit to avoid their losses contaminating the club’s FFP stats. Your comments about Glenn Murray are spot on. Aaron was a fabulous servant for the club. And using the youth helps us in efforts to get the playing staff payroll down for >£30m to £18m, a must if we are ever going to get City on to a sustainable trajectory.

Probably more if we are not back to full stadiums by 12 September. Personally I would rather see a team of young local players working together with some seasoned pros establishing the club there or thereabouts in the vicinity of promotion so that, if we ever do go up, we have a fighting chance of staying there. Buying elderly journeymen from the Premiership and then having to spend £100m to change the team is nuts. That suggests we need stability and competence.

Who would be an owner of an EFL club? You’re damned if you do; you’re damned if you don’t. The Lansdown family is clearly trying hard to behave with unusual and determined propriety. They keep confidences, don’t leak to the press, hire a CEO with a proven track record and then get hammered for trying to conduct a professional recruitment process. They have stuck, what, £50m of money they’ll never see again in the football club? And they will need to cough at least £10m next year
