In conversation with ...... Rob Newman

With almost 500 appearances over the period 1982-1991 Rob is entitled to be regarded as a Bristol City legend.
40 years ago this week as an 18 year old the departure of the Ashton Gate 8 meant he was handed his league debut against Fulham as the dawning of a new era began for the club.
This chat with Rob was interesting and informative beginning with talk of how John Atyeo influenced the schoolboy Rob and through the 80s as he achieved two promotions [84 & 90] alongside many other highs during that period.
Rob talks about how he never really wanted to leave City in summer 91 but in the years that followed at Norwich he was an integral part of a side that finished 3rd in the inaugural 92/93 Premier League season and a famous victory for the Canaries against Bayern Munich the following year.
Rob talks about his move into player recruitment with Man City in 2008, naming his best find as David Silva and how in October last year he reunited with former City team-mate David Moyes at West Ham to lead player recruitment there.
This is a truly fascinating listen for any City fan over the age of 45 who'll remember much of what Rob says and if you are younger it is good to understand how City came back from the basement of football in troubled yet often fun times such was the team spirit back then

Another impressive display from City which was worthy of all three points.
Ian and DaveP discuss a match that saw an opening 45 minutes rated the best since Pearson has been in charge.
Two good goals, two stonewall penalties turned down, the growth of W-S-M as a potent threat. All we need to do is close out games better and stop conceding 2 goals a game!!

City fall to former Gas man!!

Luton defender and former Rovers player Tom Lockyer scored one and made one for the Hatters as City fell to their 5th defeat in 7 matches and the continuation of their atrocious away form that has yielded one point from a possible 21.
City were in quite sparkling form for the first 40 minutes before Luton took the lead but a fine strike by Weimann for his 14th of the season put them level midway through the second half.
What proved to be the winner for Luton was another sloppy goal to concede but City had enough chances to take the point they deserved on the balance of play.
Ian, Mark, David & Rob Pickles discuss the match action and much more

Martin double gives City Severnside bragging rights!

Sunday Jan 23, 2022
Another 5-goal thriller at Ashton Gate as City's much improved home form saw them win 3-2 to complete a first double over the Bluebirds since 2003.
Going behind on the half hour and losing Atkinson & King to injury might have signaled a meek surrender but Martin equalised within a minute, got his 2nd to put City in front midway through the 2nd period before another classy goal from Weimann, his 13th of the season put City in control. A late 2nd for Cardiff had the home fans groaning but Nigel Pearson's side, like him, appear to have found a level of resilience which bodes well for the future.
In this episode Mark, Ian, Neil & DaveP discuss the action along with praise for Semenyo for his two assists, that Scott MUST play in midfield, JDS at RWB, Bakinson's departure, bottle throwing and FFP.

Semenyo brace the only positive as City are thrashed at the Cottage

Sunday Jan 16, 2022
We weren't expecting anything from this match against the free-scoring Londoners but when stunning goals from Semenyo twice gave City the lead at what has been a happy hunting ground in recent years there was some hope.
Sadly that hope had gone as City were behind 5-2 at the break and the game was over. The power of Mitrovic had overpowered them and whilst one further goal came in the 2nd half the game was played out with hosts seemingly not eager to add to the 13 goals scored in their past two games.
Ian & DaveP discuss the match action in their usual inimitable style!!!

Can you ever recall City losing 3 out of 4 successive home games with the fans having a general view that things are on the up?
Whilst losing to effectively Premier League opposition City put in a display that on another day would have brought a comfortable victory were it not for so many missed chances.
There were some interesting positional changes not least a Kalas, Atkinson, Pring back three but for me the introduction of Jay Dasilva as a RIGHT wing back gives City a new option well worth considering for the league game at Craven Cottage.
In this latest episode we conduct our usual match analysis and speculate on a line up for next weekend's game.

City battle from behind to secure first win of 2022
Sunday Jan 02, 2022
Sunday Jan 02, 2022
A 3-2 win against the bully boys from London gave City the ideal platform to herald a much brighter outlook for 2022.
A very young starting line up took the lead their early pressure deserved but two errors by the recalled Towler saw the visitors take an interval lead. A classy strike from Weimann then a third to complete his hat-trick were enough as City closed out the game without the typical Groundhog Day capitulation.
Massengo was the difference after he came on at half time but overall it was a good 90 minutes.

4Fs then FFS!!!

Friday Dec 31, 2021
For the first 20 minutes of this game we saw the 4Fs that Nigel Pearson had promised us on his appointment: Fast, Front Foot Football! Thereafter it was a case, once again, of FFS: why no pen for Scott, why did Pring concede the spot kick, what was in Andy King’s head when getting a 2nd booking with over 30 minutes remaining, then OMG another goal conceded in stoppage time consigning City to another home defeat.
The line up with 4 changes from the last game looked balanced and there was the surprise omission of Bentley. Semenyo missed a sitter and was denied by a good save – City could have been 3-0 up inside 15 minutes.
In this episode we discuss the match action and speculate transfer window activity in the wake of the club’s latest financials.

Mid season review with Gary Owers
Friday Dec 24, 2021
Friday Dec 24, 2021
With over 600 league games under his belt [130 with City, 94-98] Gary Owers is perhaps more qualified than most to offer a playing perspective on City's form this season.
In this final of our mid-season reviews Gary looks at recent team selections and in talk about the transfer window says not to rule out a cheeky bid for Alex Scott who he considers a more saleable asset than HNM.
Hope you have enjoyed listening to these as much as I've done recording them.
Merry Christmas everyone & thanks for listening

DaveP speaks with Richard Latham in this latest episode reviewing the 21/22 season so far.
Richard has been reporting on the fortunes of City on local media for over 40 years so his opinions should be taken on board, indeed, the conversation around the financial peril that the club finds itself in makes for interesting listening.
The chat begins with DaveP & Richard reminiscing about the much missed days of Olympic Breakfasts and Jubilee Pancakes!!!
